Googleicious

I was reading an article that said I should Google myself to see what comes up and this old blog did. I still like the idea....so back at it as some music on my ever changing list needs to be addressed. Later...

New Top Ten List

It shouldn't be too easy to change the top 10 records of all time. The original list was created before I discovered the band Calla and their new album Collisions. What smoking group of songs is this one. Ostensibly part of the Slowcore movement, Calla presents music with filthy yet restrained guitars and vocals right on the edge of breaking up. Lyrically they are introspective without being obvious. Just a terrific CD. They move into the top ten, relegating Echo & the Bunnymen to 11th spot.

Delay of Game

I issue this apology to myself, as no one else has seen this blog. Day job has been fast and furious. Discussion of album #10 is imminent.

Jumping Right In

I figured I'd get right into the meat and list my top ten favorite albums of all time. Nice, easy, non-opinion generating endeavor....

10. Echo & the Bunnymen- Flowers
09. U2- The Joshua Tree
08. The Beatles- Abbey Road
07. Catherine Wheel- Happy Days
06. Woody Herman- 1964
05. Quincy Jones- Plays Hip Hits
04. U2- Achtung Baby
03. Miles Davis- Kind of Blue
02. Radiohead- OK Computer
01. The Beatles- Sgt. Pepper

A list ripe for discussion to be sure and I'll spend most of the next few posts detailing my thoughts on selecting these particular albums. There are also a few albums that are fighting for the tenth spot, and that's where I get torn.
U2's latest, How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, is outrageously successful in its execution and could end up moving The Bunnymen out. That's where I'll start on my next post.... No. 10.

Slowly into the blogosphere

I'm a fan of weblogs. Freedom of expression, impression, depression...they are everything from good to great to mystifying. I'm a fan of music. I write it, record it, listen to it, read about it and surround myself with it everyday. This love was generously given to me by my parents generally, and my father specifically. Growing up it was Jazz and Rock. Quincy Jones, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, Miles Davis, Chet Baker.....The Beatles, and The Beatles, oh, and also The Beatles. I grew up surrounded by great music, and musicians.

It is from this place that I'll attempt to merge the longtime love, with the new(ish) universe of expression. In the event these musings are read, I hope they elicit a thought, an action, a comment, on one of the greatest of human inventions. If they aren't read, it's equally satisfying, as it's the writing that holds the meaning......and so it goes.
